After three years away, Good Omens has returned to our screens for a third and final season on Prime Video. Except, erm, why is it only one episode long?
The Prime Video series kicked off in 2019 and is based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's 1990s novel of the same name, and follows the story of the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) who team up to battle the anti-christ.
After two seasons, the pair parted ways (after that kiss) but now that season three has dropped on Prime Video, the pair have reunited to save the world one last time.
However, unlike the previous two seasons, which both had six episodes, this third and final season only has one singular episode, that runs for 90 minutes. So why is the show so short this time around? Here's what you need to know.
Why does Good Omens season 3 only have 1 episode?
Back in 2023, Prime Video confirmed Good Omens was going to return for a third and final season that would have six episodes.
With Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders saying at the time: “Good Omens has checked every box for a clever, witty, and funny comedy that not only made it a success on Prime Video, but also made ‘goodness’ watchable and fun thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity. The final season is sure to be packed with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy.”
However, a year later in 2024, Neil Gaiman stepped back from the production of the third series, following a series of sexual assault allegations made by multiple women against Gaiman, as per the BBC. Gaiman has always denied the accusations.
Gaiman was no longer involved in the production and his production company Blank Corporation also didn't work on the finale. The finale began filming in January last year in Scotland.
Will Good Omens get a season 4?
No, there will not be another season of Good Omens. Prior to the series' shortening, it was always understood the third season would be the last.
Prime Video announced the show's third season would be its last during the announcement of the show's renewal back in 2024.
